INTRODUCTION

Readlee’s mission is to ensure all students become stronger readers. To accomplish this goal, it’s essential that Readlee is a safe place for students to read aloud. Protecting the privacy of our users is fundamental to our mission and business.

This Privacy Policy governs how Read Aloud Productions, Inc (“Readlee”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects and uses your information through your use of our Service at readlee.com, (collectively “the Service”). Your use of the Service is also subject to our Terms of Service.

This Privacy Policy describes how Readlee collects, uses, transfers and discloses the information collected from and about you, and what choices you have with respect to your information.

Your interaction with the Service can be:

  1. As a school district, school, school administrator or teacher who uses the Service (each a “Teacher”) to assist students reading through designated content (“Readings”).
  2. As a student using the Service .

To use the Service, Teachers must create an account (“Account Information”).

For the sake of clarity, any data collected by Readlee that can be reasonably linked back to an individual student is considered “Student Data.”

By using Readlee, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Readlee. You can contact us anytime with questions about this policy at info@readlee.com.

WHAT INFORMATION DOES READLEE COLLECT?

Directly From You:

Account Information: When a Teacher creates an account for either themselves or students, we collect name, email address, password. For Teacher accounts we also collect a profile picture, if one is provided.

Students must be invited to a Readlee class by a Teacher via a class link, class code, or assignment link to use the platform. The student’s information may be entered to create an account by a Teacher. In some cases, the information to create a student’s account is populated from the student’s account with a third party sign-in service, such as their Google Classroom or Clever account.

Assignment Content: Readlee collects content that is related to the Reading. This includes the Reading, comments, written responses, or voice recordings.

Voice Data: Readlee collects voice data as you read aloud. Please review the Voice Data section below for additional information.

Communications: Readlee collects any information you send to us directly, such as questions, feedback, and email communications.

Transaction Information: if applicable, Readlee will collect information to complete the transaction, such as the payment card information you provide to our third-party payment processor, and information about your transaction history on the Service.

Advertising and Marketing Information: Readlee collects information related to your advertising and marketing preferences such as your preferences for receiving communications about our activities, events, and publications, and details about how you engage with our communications. We may use this information to send marketing communications to Teachers. We do not send any marketing communications to students

Information Collected Indirectly from You:

Log Data: When you use Readlee, we receive log data such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, device information, and your mobile carrier. In addition, we may receive or collect additional information such as the referring web page, referring search terms, and pages visited.

Usage information: Readlee collects usage information such as information about how you use the Service and interact with us, including information associated with any content you upload to the website or otherwise submit to us, your search terms and other information you provide when you use any interactive features of the Service.

Information from cookies and similar technologies: Readlee collects a variety of information about how you interact with Readlee so that we can deliver a better and more relevant Service for you.

From a Third Party:

Information from your Google Account or other Third-Party Sign-in Service: Readlee collects your name and email address (if available) provided by Google Classroom, Clever, or other third-party sign-in service account.

Other Information: Information that we may collect which is not specifically listed here, but which we will use in accordance with this Privacy Policy or as otherwise disclosed at the time of collection.

HOW DOES READLEE USE THIS INFORMATION?

We use this information to provide our services to you. For example, we use this information to:

  • Allow you to access and use our Service. For example, Readlee uses biometric information to analyze a student’s reading abilities.
  • Provide you with customer support.
  • Process your Service-related payments.
  • Communicate with you about activity on and updates to your account or your student’s account.
  • Share information that may be of interest to you.
  • Research, understand, and analyze your needs and interests to improve and develop new features for our products.
  • Promote enhancements to Readlee relevant for you.
  • Respond to your requests, questions and feedback.
  • Investigate, prevent, and detect activities on our service that we believe may violate the law or applicable regulations.
  • At the request of a school, investigate accounts to determine whether they comply with school policies.
  • Respond to law enforcement requests.
  • For other purposes with your consent.

You can withdraw certain consents for the collection of your personal information at any time, and opt-out of marketing communications from us. To do so, please email us at info@readlee.com

DOES READLEE ALLOW ADVERTISING OR SHARE DATA FOR ADVERTISING ON ITS SITE?

No. We never display ads, allow third-party ads or allow data collection by third-party advertisers or data brokers on our site. Additionally, we do not allow in-app purchases for student accounts.

HOW DOES READLEE SHARE MY INFORMATION?

We use a small number of third-party services in order to operate and improve Readlee, such as Amazon Web Services, a data center operator that manages our servers, and a notification service that helps us send you messages about your account. These services need access to your information in order to work (i.e. your email address is required to send you email), but are contractually prohibited from using that information for any other purpose other than to provide the Service.

Readlee may disclose your information to a third party to comply with applicable laws or regulations, or a valid legal request - including to meet national security or law enforcement requirements. If we are going to release your data, we will do our best to provide you with notice in advance by email, unless we are prohibited from doing so by law.

Readlee may disclose student Account Information to the student’s school district upon request, as required by FERPA.

Teachers may choose to publish Readings they create to the Readlee Library or share them with other Teachers. If you choose to do so, the Reading and your Profile may be shared publicly. No student responses to Readings are ever shared publicly.

We may share your information with a small number of third-party analytics services (such as Google Analytics, Amplitude, and Fullstory) to improve our Service and your experience.

We may disclose or transfer your Account Information and Readings in connection with the sale, merger, bankruptcy, sale of assets or reorganization of Readlee.

HOW DO YOU USE COOKIES?

Cookies are small text files that we transfer to your web browser that allow us to identify your web browser and store information about your account. We use these cookies to keep you logged in to Readlee, customize your Readlee experience, remember your preferences, and understand how you use Readlee.

You can choose to remove or disable certain cookies via your browser settings. Please be aware that the Service may not work properly if you disable or decline cookies.

CAN TEACHERS SHARE STUDENT AND CLASS READING INFORMATION?

Readlee is designed to promote safe sharing. Teachers control who can see assignments or comments or access a student’s account by authorizing other Teachers to connect to that student’s account. Teachers can only authorize other Teachers in their school and solely within the purpose of the Service. We use strict authorization methods on our backend servers to ensure data is only authorized to the right teachers.

YOUR RIGHTS

Based on the jurisdiction you are in, you may have certain rights, including the right to access, correct, or delete any of your personal information collected by Readlee. Remember, if you are a Teacher, you can update the information associated with your account directly by logging into your account and viewing the Account Settings tab on your profile. If you are a parent and want to correct, edit, download, or update information about a student, you can work directly with your Teacher. You may also contact us at info@readlee.com.

If you request that your account or any content submitted to Readlee be deleted, Readlee may still retain information for up to 60 days to provide customer support and prevent accidental deletion, unless otherwise required by law.

Please be aware that FERPA requires us to retain student education records once a valid request to inspect those records has been made.

Notice for Nevada Residents - If you are a resident of Nevada, you have the right to opt-out of the sale of certain personal information to third parties who intend to license or sell that personal information. Readlee does not sell personal information. If you have questions you can email us at info@readlee.com with the subject line “Nevada Do Not Sell Request” and providing us with your name and the email address associated with your account.

HOW DOES READLEE KEEP YOUR DATA SAFE?

Readlee takes protecting your security and privacy seriously and we've put a number of measures in place to protect the integrity of your information, including use of access-controlled data centers, restricted employee access to personal information, and data encryption in transit and at rest.

HOW DOES READLEE HANDLE DATA FROM INTERNATIONAL VISITORS?

The Service is designed, delivered, hosted and operated in the United States and is subject to United States law. By default, any personal information that you provide to Readlee will be hosted on servers located in the United States. By using this Service, you consent to the transfer to and processing of your personal information in the United States.

Please contact us at info@readlee.com if you are accessing Readlee from a jurisdiction that requires a Data Protection Agreement, or other similar agreement, to be in place before using our Service.

In certain situations, we may be required to disclose personal data in response to lawful requests by public authorities, including to meet national security or law enforcement requirements.

RETENTION AND DESTRUCTION

We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the Service, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, accounting, or reporting requirements, to establish or defend legal claims, or for fraud prevention purposes. We consider the nature and sensitivity of the personal information to determine how long to retain your personal information.

When we no longer require the personal information we have collected about you, we will securely delete it.

CHANGES TO OUR PRIVACY POLICY

Readlee may from time to time make changes to this Privacy Policy to account for changes to our practices or applicable law. If we make changes to this Privacy Policy that we believe will materially affect your rights, we will notify you by email about these changes and post a notice to our service. If you continue to use our service after you receive notice of changes to this Privacy Policy, you will be deemed to have accepted these changes.

CHILDREN

Other than as described herein, we do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under the age of 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child without verification of consent where this is required, we will delete that information as quickly as possible. If you believe that we might have any information from or about a child, please contact us at info@readlee.com.

Children under the age of 13 may use Readlee under the supervision of their Teacher only.

Readlee's collection of Student Data is authorized by participating Teachers, having obtaining parental consent or providing consent on behalf of the parent, if applicable, or as a proxy for the parent.

Readlee may share Student Data with our third-party service providers who have security, privacy, and data retention policies consistent with our policies and solely to the extent necessary for them to perform a business or technology support function for us. This may include data processing, account management or providing us with usage analytics.

VOICE DATA 

When Readlee performs the Services, Readlee collects voice data from users in order to assess reading accuracy; voice data is not collected, processed, or retained for any other purpose. To the extent that the voice data could be considered “biometric information” under applicable law, you represent that you have read, understood, and agreed to the collection of voice data as disclosed in this policy.

Readlee will not sell, lease, trade, or otherwise profit from voice data. Readlee will disclose or disseminate voice data in the following circumstances only:

  1. To third-party service providers for the purposes of supporting and enabling the Service.
  2. To other third parties where (i) required by applicable federal state or municipal law, including response to legal process (such as a subpoena, warrant or civil discovery request); or (ii) you consent to such disclosure.

Readlee will store, transmit, and protect voice data using a reasonable standard of care. Readlee shall retain voice data as long as reasonably necessary to maintain the Service for you, unless we are legally required to retain such personal information for a longer or shorter period. When the retention period reaches an end, Readlee will permanently destroy the voice data.
